Report profile and reporting frameworks
Our Sustainability Report covers the whole Swiss Re Group as it was organised on 31 December 2019, ie the publicly listed holding company Swiss Re Ltd, its three Business Units Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions and Life Capital, and all directly or indirectly held subsidiaries. (On 6 December 2019, Swiss Re announced the agreement to sell ReAssure to Phoenix Group Holdings plc. The transaction is expected to close in mid-2020, subject to regulatory and antitrust approvals.)
As in past years, the scope of the report is limited to Swiss Re's own operations. Although we provide information on our sourcing and procurement policies, we do not report on the performance of our suppliers because the re/insurance business does not involve an extensive supply chain. However, since 2013, we have been disclosing some of the emissions caused along our supply chain (Our Greenhouse Neutral Porgramme).
The present report follows the 2018 edition and covers the calendar year of 2019 ending 31 December 2019. We plan to maintain our annual publishing cycle and to present our next Sustainability Report in the first quarter of 2021, covering the year of 2020. To get a complete overview of our actions as a responsible company, the 2019 Sustainability Report should be read in conjunction with our 2019 Annual Report and the 2019 Report published by the Swiss Re Foundation.
All the main chapters of the report have received independent assurance from PricewaterhouseCoopers. Their assurance report is included in Independent Limited Assurance Report on the Swiss Re Sustainability Reporting for the financial year 2019.
Our Sustainability Report incorporates our 2019 Communication on Progress (CoP) for the UN Global Compact. You can view the full list of references to the Compact’s ten principles in the online version of the report.
Furthermore, we continue to report against the Principles for Sustainable Insurance, PSI. Our Public Disclosure of Progress is also available in the online version.
In our 2019 Financial Report we provide detailed Climate-related financial disclosures, as developed and recommended by the Financial Stability Board (www.fsb-tcfd.org).
